Withdrawn trains
Every train type that has left service on the lines this site covers, by the decade it arrived. So far that's the London Underground, from the Metropolitan Railway's steam engines of 1864 to the 1986 prototypes, and the first from the main lines: Royal Mail's Class 325 mail trains. The first from outside London are the Glasgow Subway's 1980 Metro-Cammell trains. Each is drawn once a source gives its dimensions, at the same scale as today's trains, so they compare with each other.

The bar under each name spans 1860 to today, with ticks at 1900, 1950 and 2000: the stretch in ink is the years in service.
