Victoria line
The first deep-level Underground line built across central London for more than 50 years, and the world's first automatic passenger railway. It opened in stages from 1968 to 1971 and now runs the most frequent service in the UK.

History
- The planned north-east to south-west line is named Route C.
- Construction begins.
- The first section opens, from Walthamstow Central to Highbury & Islington. The line is the first automatic passenger railway in the world.
- Extended to Warren Street, with King's Cross St Pancras and Euston.
- Extended to Victoria, through Oxford Circus and Green Park. The Queen opens the line officially at Green Park.
- Extended south to Brixton, through Vauxhall and Stockwell, opened by Princess Alexandra.
- Pimlico opens, between Victoria and Vauxhall.
- The first 2009 Stock train enters passenger service.
- The last 1967 Stock trains are withdrawn.
- The upgrade, with new trains and signalling, is completed.
- The peak service reaches 33 trains an hour.
- 34 trains an hour at the busiest times.
- 36 trains an hour at peak, one every 100 seconds, the most frequent service in the UK.
- The 100-second service is extended to three hours of each peak.
