- British Rail Class 170 Wikipedia, read 13 October 2026the livery's name, who ran it and its years (no colours taken)
- ScotRail's fleet (34 three-car units, Wikipedia, checked against ORR's diesel vehicle total)
- The drawing: the outline it is measured from prints no dimensions; scaled to Porterbrook's car lengths and height
- Bogie centres, wheelbase (8 ft 8 in (2,651 mm)) and wheels (2 ft 10 in (860 mm)) are as the outline draws them; no printed figures were found
- Window panes as on a ScotRail 170/4; EMR's 170/2 and 170/5 interiors may change a pane or two near the car ends
- The gangway between the cars and the purple cap over the cab are placed from photographs
- Colours: sampled from photographs; no paint references have been published
- Northern's 16 are three-car (Porterbrook 2013 lists 170453-461 and 170472-478 as three-car 170/4s; photographed as three cars in 2025); its 2022 contract lists them as two-car
- Bogie types: Porterbrook's 2013 brochure names P3-23 and T3-23 only on its 171/8 data sheet; the 170's are Wikipedia's (the same types). The drawing's bogies are laid out from photographs; no side-on view separates the powered bogie
- Car lengths (set W13JF, 13 October 2026): the bodies are Bombardier's 75 ft 6 in (23,000 mm; a rounded figure) and its drawing's proportions, read to about 1%; the Carnfleet photograph and Bachmann's artwork read 1-2% shorter still (74 ft 6 in to 74 ft 10 in (22.7-22.8 m)). Porterbrook's 77 ft 6 in (23.62 m) is taken to be over couplers
- The underframe's case heights to about 100 mm (from the raft's outline and a distant photograph); the DMSL's case edges to about 200 mm (read at 35-45 mm a pixel)
- The DMSL's vents and sweep lines are the DMCL's layout from its own cab (no photograph shows them clearly); the MS's vents aren't drawn
- ScotRail Saltire: the sheet draws the first-class line on both driving cars; the drawing's DMSL, a standard-class car in this record, is drawn without it
- ScotRail Saltire: the sheet draws the dot field by the DMSL's cab door in a lighter blue than the others; it is drawn in the same tint as the rest
- ScotRail Saltire: the arrows and dot fields are drawn as dots at the sheet's spacing, their sizes from the Class 380 sheet's measured ramps, not this sheet's own dot by dot; the yellow and the window band are the sheet's own fills (no paint references found for them)
- ScotRail Saltire: the sheet dates from ScotRail's 2010 guidelines, as the placed page says; later changes aren't shown
- ScotRail Saltire: the cab-end arrows (salt2, 11 October 2026) are read from one near side-on photograph of 170408 (2026), rectified on the cab door: one lattice, 120 mm along the rows and 107 mm between them, each row 26 mm to the left of the one above as seen, the DMSL's mirrored to match; the smallest dots at the foot of the lower arm fall below the drawer's smallest size and are left out
- CrossCountry: the plum's edge is measured on one side-on photograph (about 150 mm) and drawn straight
- CrossCountry: colours: sampled from three photographs in different light and averaged; the roof judged; the yellow and orange lines are the record's own; no paint references found
- CrossCountry: CrossCountry has been repainting its 170s red and cream since March 2025 as each is refurbished (to 2028; see the red entry); how many still carry this livery isn't published
- CrossCountry red: the red's trailing edge is read on one three-quarter photograph (about 1 ft 4 in (400 mm)) and simplified to one edge; the crimson shading there isn't drawn
- CrossCountry red: the cream bands are measured on one side-on photograph (about 100 mm)
- CrossCountry red: colours: sampled from photographs in different light and averaged; no paint references found
- CrossCountry red: how many units carry it isn't published: five (170101, 170112-170115) are on Commons by July 2026; the refurbishment runs to 2028
- Northern: the blue's edge is read on photographs at an angle (about 300 mm) and simplified
- Northern: colours: the Class 323's for the same livery, checked by eye against sampled values; no paint references found
- Northern: Northern's 170s run as three cars (its fleet entry); the drawing shows the two driving cars, as the record's other liveries do
- The years of the former liveries come from Wikipedia's class article and the other sources listed, and haven't been checked against a second source.
